Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that events in Lviv on May 9 should put Ukrainian establishment on their guard on the eve of the 70th anniversary of beginning of the Great Patriotic War on June 22. 53% of Ukrainians consider this historic date to be the most notable anniversary of 2011.
V.Lytvyn stated, "There is a gap between the public attitude to the significant historical and humanitarian values, and their intolerant interpretation and cynical counteraction on the part of particular political forces and mass media." "The lack of political and social consensus and a clear-cut state policy on such issues divides the society and leads to critical situations despite economic stabilization and gradual settlement of social issues," admitted the Head of the Ukrainian Parliament.
V.Lytvyn suggests relying on the experience of the European Union in the development of tolerance strategies and prevention of social radicalization to support traditional historical and humanitarian values of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, calls for discussing tolerance in the Ukrainian society at the sitting of the Public Humanitarian Council under the President of Ukraine.
